what we do
how kids korner works
sites + tutoring
We strive to provide a comprehensive and personalized curriculum for every student that we work with. During our general meetings, members collaborate together to create worksheets, writing exercises, and interactive presentations specifically catered to that child. We then take these tutoring materials to our weekly sites where we also promote social skills and creativity through arts and crafts, science experiments, recreational games, and real-world discussions. Every Monday, our volunteers travel to VCH where we spend two hours engaging with the children. The first half of our program is dedicated to academic tutoring. In the second half of our program, we focus on the mentorship aspect through arts and crafts, games, and science experiments to allow bonding between our members and the children. Through this portion of the site, we aim to encourage the students to explore their creativity, practice real-world skills, and connect with each other socially.

field trips
Kids Korner also hosts quarterly educational field trips that are free of cost to our service recipients to provide broader learning opportunities and foster stronger relationships between the volunteers and children. Working with the same cohort of students throughout the years continues to provide Kids Korner with a truly special and valuable experience where members can watch the growth of the children we tutor and mentor over time. This allows Kids Korner to offer UCLA students not only a deeper understanding of the impacts of education on youth but also the opportunity to form meaningful ties with the families in the communities that we serve.

socials + fundraisers
Kids Korner is a great way to make a difference and get involved in community service, but it is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and meet other like-minded UCLA student volunteers! From picnics on the Tongva steps and game nights to dessert runs and laid-back study sessions, we also host many socials for our members throughout the quarter to connect with each other and build a strong community within the organization. Since Kids Korner is completely free for our service recipients, we rely on outside funding sources and fundraisers to make this program successful. By hosting fundraisers and participating in campus-wide events, we can further support our abilities to help the kids we work with.
